Colors of Antigua
There is yellow on the wall
And stony gray on the street
The cathedral is sunlit gold
While the iron bars turn white in the heat
The city center is shaded green
Unlike the taxis speeding by in red
An elderly woman hints of pink in her fabric
Against the brown skin her history hath bred
One of God’s lasting signs of peace
Was a rainbow in the blue heavens above
Looking at the colors of Antigua
It seems we hath witnessed the return of the dove

Eleven O'Clock Sunsets
continuous light,
never-ending day,
dull and hazy bright
for the midnight sun’ll stay
twenty hour days,
six months insomniac’s rest,
long reaching light rays,
a short lure of darkness left
beach of mud and silt,
disguised quicksand near the water,
high tide regionally built
forthcoming sun on the latter
eleven o’clock sunsets,
soft blue, earth-toned sky line,
unmoving water like mirror reflects,
white capped mountain tops left above and behind
-
Ripple
Gliding down slowly past,
Rhythmically bobbing on the mast-
We two boats pass side by side
Creating a mountain of green and white.
Over the lake, the sight of Panajachel subsides
Leaving only peaceful commotion when two waves collide.
Walking slowly past
The Mayans of the Mountains in their hats.
They speaking in their native tongue-
Us, speaking a foreign language among
These sellers and growers in their pride:
So confusing the bridge when two worlds collide.

Focus
Open space and strong wind
In the morning we greet
For golden sunlight we kid
As words leave a pencil onto the sheet…
Short-lived in young minds
A driving force behind desire
Separated in mixed thoughts
So the burning history to be fought
Words follow words
Written and read in silence
Inspiration in the day
Moves by as a burning fence
A memory of people loved
Skips by in the mind
As focus is tripped and shoved
By big Montana sky blind

Rio Tatin in the Dark
two hours late-
low to the water-
fears will be shattered
can you see the shoreline?
or is it just a shadow?
starlight shines on the black canvas above.
sounds of the night
dark waves are met
a beam of light to guide
rain starts to fall
thoughts of boat sinking-
what if we were to hit something?
can you swim, my friend?
worries pass by
like wind on the water
fears will be shattered

Georgia Sky
Shadows shift north to south
East to west
As sunrise on the ATL leads morning to dusk
Labor to rest
Shine on Georgia sky
Let the blue of the day seep through
That orange sunrise that lingers
And the black night that hath overtook
Suburbs are the same from one valley to the next
Each suburb block to each street
Only to imagine life of the ghetto day to day
Each winter cold and summer heat
Shine on Georgia sky
Let the blue of the day seep through
That orange sunrise that lingers
And the black night that hath overtook
